The recent and interesting interview of Iván Redondo by Jordi Évole has reminded us again of an old and always current problem in politics, the relationship between “government” and “power”, after pointing out that they are not the same. Some of this was contained in the, yes old and almost forgotten, formula of “party of struggle and government” with which we from the PCE and the PSUC intended to define our “Party” project. Because POWER and GOVERNMENT are certainly not the same, but they are closely related, although sometimes it seems that it is not known or that it has been forgotten. For any political project, obtaining the government is not only legitimate, but necessary. The problem results from the possible forgetting that this does not necessarily mean achieving power, a power sufficient to apply the objectives for which one aspired to be able to govern. To govern with power, one must have sufficient social support to overcome the inevitable obstacles present in society, to confront other powers (social, economic, media, etc.) that have their own objectives that are potentially contradictory with those of the group whose representatives have reached the government.
Social support is essential to achieve government and then to be able to govern. The first as individual support of citizens, the second necessarily as social support organized around specific objectives. From the political proposals of the left, progressive, that is, of advancement and social transformation, of advances in individual and collective rights, social support involves the mobilization of the popular classes, of the organized working class in the first place, of the interested social groups in such advances of Australia Phone Number rights and freedoms, and in their effective exercise. For all these reasons, in my opinion the question of “power” is prior to that of “government” and, consequently, “power without government” is preferable to “government without power”, precisely to achieve “ government with power ”. And in this game, not of words but of concepts, of realities, another of the themes that emerged in the aforementioned interview makes sense, when around the expectations of Yolanda Díaz , her possibilities were pointed out, promoting a “ platform ” that goes beyond the sum of its current support, especially if it is understood that.
Only an electoral platform but a political project of progress that assumes the experience of the current government coalition, and that would have to orient itself, without waiting for the electoral call , to now promote debate and social organization around a unitary proposal for progress to be able to update and develop the current government program and continue advancing along this same line. A project, the one stated by Yolanda Díaz, undoubtedly of interest, but in which perhaps a greater explanation would be appropriate, and to place priorities, in any case, to propose something more than the space that is intended to be united, organized. Join for what? Is it to challenge the PSOE for the primacy of the left? Or is it to contribute, together, with all available and organizeable forces, to the construction of the space of progress, in its plurality, in the current situation? Or is it for a utopian tomorrow? … Well, depending on the answer, express or in fact, the project will have different translations in its explanation and development. Something is being pointed out in that sense, but it is necessary to make it more explicit in its contents and organization.
